Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra

The Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1944, is made up of 70 local musicians with a professional conductor and leader. We are set up as a charity, and our aim is to make live orchestral music available locally.

Our three subscription concerts each season focus particularly on 19th and 20th century masterpieces which are attractive and enjoyable for our audiences, and at the same time interesting and challenging for us as players. In addition we present our very popular Family Concerts in October and a Taste of Classics concert in the New Year, a short mid-week concert with complimentary glass of wine.

Most of our concerts take place in the Stag Community Arts Centre, our local theatre. We rehearse each Wednesday from 8-10.15pm at Sevenoaks Primary School.

18th November 2018 3 pm

An afternoon concert of romantic music, opening with the overture to one of Wagner's most famous operas. We follow this with the slow movement of Mahler's 5th Symphony, a piece made famous by the film "Death in Venice". We are delighted to welcome back Joo Yeon Sir to play the lovely violin Concerto by Bruch, a firm favourite in the repertoire.

Forming the second half of our concert, Symphony no.2 by Elgar is truly an Edwardian piece - dedicated to King Edward VII, Elgar felt he had poured his soul into this music.

This concert at the Stag Theatre is part of our season ticket scheme, other tickets can be booked now at the Stag Theatre Box Office.

If you'd like to listen to the music that we'll be playing, here are some links to YouTube:
