Composers from many countries have found inspiration in the music of Italy and Spain.
In this concert we have music with Spanish origins by Rimsky-Korsakov (Capriccio Espagnol), Ravel (Pavane pour une infanta defunte) and Chabrier (Espana). We begin however with pieces celebrating Italy, by Verdi (The Overture to Sicilian Vespers) and Berlioz (Harold in Italy).
If you would like to listen to any of these pieces before our concert, here are some suggestions:
Verdi - The Overture to Sicilian Vespers
Berlioz - Harold in Italy.
Rimsky-Korsakov - Capriccio Espagnol.
Ravel - Pavane pour une infante defunte.
Chabrier - Espana
For the Berlioz, we are joined by the prize-winning viola player Timothy Ridout.
