The Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra are celebrating multiple anniversaries in this concert; Verdi and Wagner, both born in 1813, are considered the most influential operatic composers of the 19th Century. Opening the programme is the Force of Destiny Overture by Verdi, followed by Wagner’s Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde. To contrast, Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto will be performed by the brilliant local rising star, Matilda Lloyd. Matilda is currently principal trumpet of the National Youth Orchestra and has most recently won the Junior Guildhall Lutine prize. Also on the bill is the poignant Intermezzo from the opera Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) and César Franck’s Symphony in D Minor.
